Wow. This was really tough to read. Not in a bad way, just because it was such a horrifying story. Zeitoun is the true story of a New Orleanian family's experience during and post Hurricane Katrina. Their story is powerfully recorded by Dave Eggers, who is the author of one of my all time favorite books, "What is the What".
The real life hero of the story, Syrian-American Abdulrahman Zeitoun, is the owner of a successful painting and contracting firm, who stays behind after the storm hits, paddling around in a canoe, helping whoever he can.
And then the shocking stuff happens. And it really happened, in our country. Not going to say much more!
Bottom Line: this is an incredible story that deserves to be read.
